WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Wilmington’s American Legion Post 10 will donate more than 50 American flags to New Hanover County Schools for classrooms, libraries and media centers. The veterans group will make the donation at Tuesday’s Board of Education meeting.
Last winter, School Board Chair Don Hayes requested district schools to survey their building to ensure that all classrooms had an American flag. The response came from all 42 schools, including requests from media teachers and librarians.
“It seems entirely appropriate for this donation to come on the heels of another 9/11 anniversary,” Hayes said in a news release. “It is important for our students, educators and community to recognize how grateful we are to live in a free country that provides a quality education and great care for our youth.”
Flag Chairman Harold Davis and Commander David Hartley from Post 10 will present the flags which will help fulfill the needs of NHCS.
