Wilmington, NC (WWAY) – The Wilmington Fire Department opened the doors of the Empie Park Fire Station for the first ever scout day.

Close to forty scouts attended the event where they were taught about how to escape a fire, calling 911, and applying first aid.

The Wilmington PD also got involved by teaching the Cub Scouts about proper bicycle safety.

“Everybody’s important information is that we all need to know about fire safety and we all need to plan ahead,” said Wendy Giannini of the Wilmington Fire Department. “Practicing for an emergency during an emergency is just too late.”

All of the scouts who attended the event will receive a safety merit badge from their troop.
