WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Wilmington Police say one man is in the hospital after being shot Monday evening in the 500 block of North 10th Street.

Police say a call came in to dispatch around 6 p.m., with reports of multiple shots fired and one man injured. When officers arrived, they say the victim had already been taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center and the suspect had fled the scene.

Sgt. Matt Ingram with WPD says witnesses describe the suspect as a black male, with long dreads, and wearing a white t-shirt. Ingram says police will continue to circle the area to see if they can identify anyone that might match their description for the suspect.

Ingram says detectives went to the hospital to get more information from the victim, who he says has non-life threatening injuries.
