Asked about the Fast and Furious program at the Univision forum on Thursday, President Obama falsely claimed that the program began under President George W. Bush.

“I think it’s important for us to understand that the Fast and Furious program was a field-initiated program begun under the previous administration,” the president said. “When Eric Holder found out about it, he discontinued it. We assigned a inspector general to do a thorough report that was just issued, confirming that in fact Eric Holder did not know about this, that he took prompt action and the people who did initiate this were held accountable.”

In actuality, the Fast and Furious program was started in October 2009, nine months into the Obama presidency.

Previous programs involving ATF agents allowing guns to “walk” across the border so as to trace them were run during the Bush presidency, but not this particular “field-initiated program.”

White House officials did not respond to a request for comment after the falsehood was pointed out to them.

Fast and Furious was a continuation of the “gunwalking” operations began in 2006 by the ATF. The operation dubbed “fast and furious” was named in 2009.
    Nice try though.

Pretty apparent the Repubs are grasping for straws since Mitt the Twit has shot himself in the foot so many times that even his own party is beginning to distance themselves from him. What an idiot……..

So you condone the actions under President Obama and AG Holder? People died as a result of this.

  • Grand Ole Party

You leftie libs just can’t admit when your leader is a clown can ya? He is a lying buffoon. Fast and Furious was started under the Obammy admin. period. Hard to swallow right? Deal with it.

It was stopped by Bush because it was not working. Obama restarted the program back up. At least Bush tracked the guns he sold, Obama just let them go.

  • Commonsensenotcommontoday

Operation Wide Receiver was undertaken during the Bush Administration. Unlike Fast and Furious, they attached tracking devices to the firearms, but when they were discovered the program fell apart.

It was deemed a total failure and was ended nearly two years prior to Obama coming into office. Fast and Furious was in no way, shape, or form a “continuation.”

The president lies enough on his own. You don’t have to help him.

Here is another clear case that this man (Obama) cannot except responsibility for something that happened when he was elected. Pass the buck again. Well if he gets re-elected, who can he blame the last four years on? LOL

Same thing like always it bushs fault not mine. He can never admit his own faults.

This guy can not keep his lies, er misinformation straight. Which is it Mr. President?

Even if this effort began under the Bush administration, it doesn’t matter – it was still a dumb idea Mr. President and those in your administration started/continued it. Then again, I am still waiting for Gitmo to close, remaining pieces of the Patriot Act to be repealed, and sensible gun control (ie, automatic weapons ban) to be introduced. It’s one thing to make the right mad and another to make the left disappointed.
