Wilmington, NC (WWAY) — Seashell enthusiast from all over North Carolina flocked to the Cape Fear Museum for the 2012 North Carolina Shell Show.

Attendees were able to see the remnants of bivalves and gastropods as well as learn about the various aspects of each shell.

Shell Club members say that shelling is something anyone in the Cape Fear region can do.

“Anybody can do this,” said John Timmerman of the North Carolina Shell Club. “A lot of people coming in have never suspected anything like this. I have spoken to people today that are just getting started off and they want to get all of the big books and make a big hobby out of this.”

Proceeds from the event are going towards a scholarship for a UNCW student majoring in marine sciences.
