WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County Sheriff’s deputies are investigating a reported break-in overnight at a convenience store on Carolina Beach Road.

According to New Hanover County Dispatch, an alarm system alerted authorities at Monkey Junction Pit Stop around 2 a.m.

The store provided WWAY surveillance video that shows what appears to be a white man falling through the ceiling. When the security alarm sounded, the suspect kicked out a window and left empty-handed.

Sheriff’s spokesman Sgt. Jerry Brewer says deputies approached a man who fit the description of the suspect. The man tried to fight with them when they tried to talk with him. Investigators, though, say once they saw the store surveillance video, they realized he was not the man who broke in. He was cited for resist/obstruct/delay and released.

Anyone with information about the man who broke into the store should call the New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office at (910) 798-4200.
