BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — We told you yesterday about a missing girl out of Carteret County. Today, deputies in our area looked into tips she may have been seen around here.
It’s been three days since 12-year-old Abigale Lefevers went missing from her Newport home. Investigators believe Lefevers is with registered sex offender Timothy Newman, 38.
Newman’s roommate Van Jarmin says he thought Newman was involved with a woman, although now investigators suspect Newman was texting the 12-year-old girl.
“It seemed like they were in love,” Jarmin said. “I mean, I hate to say that, because that’s a big word, but from the outside looking in it looked like him, it looked like him and his girlfriend was having good conversations every night.”
Deputies have checked reports of the man and girl in Brunswick County, but they have not led to anything so far.
Investigators say to keep an eye out. They are even distributing fliers to hotels in the county.
“There are a lot of those cars like that (Newman’s red Chrysler Sebring convertible) in this county,” Brunswick County Chief Deputy Charlie Miller said. “A lot of our retirees have moved here have that particular car, so there is going to be sightings of that car or one like it in this county.”
WPDE in Myrtle Beach reports Newman and Lefevers may be traveling south to Florida, but the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office is still taking steps to make sure she is not in our area.
The Sheriff’s Office says every tip helps. If you think you know something about this case, call law enforcement immediately.
