WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County has received a notice of appeal from fired Parks, Gardens and Senior Resources Director Jim McDaniel.

A county spokesman says it could take more than a month before the appeal is heard. The county has five days after a hearing to make a ruling.

Neither side will say why McDaniel was fired Monday. He’d been with the county since 2005.

I concur with comments posted by others who are frustrated with Mr. McDaniel’s treatment of his employees. I’ve been waiting nearly 5 years to see this termination happen. He is a megalomaniacal, Napoleonic terror of a manager who is paranoid of anyone potential usurping his self-imagined power. I worked briefly for him and quit due to his abusive treatment. Other employees were afraid of him and even told me to make sure “he knew he was the boss,” so as to not ruffle his tail-feathers. I was shocked when he was appointed Dir. of Parks and Rec because I thought my informal complaint to NHC HR must have fallen on deaf ears. Plus, it seemed odd he would go work for the county he was so desperately attempting to sever Airlie Gardens from in his efforts to make it “self-sufficient.” I’m so relieved to see he has been terminated and read that others are finally voicing their opinions of him and his atrocious behavior towards his employees. I hope he loses his appeal and the county sticks to its position.
