WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — There are new details in the case of a father trying to get custody of the son he did not know about.

As you saw ONLY ON 3 back in May, Greg Johns found out he had a son when the baby was six months old and up for adoption. A judge denied Johns’s request to intervene.

Johns is in the middle of the appeals process, which could take another 18 months. He’s also hired a civil attorney and is planning to sue the adoption agency and his ex-girlfriend for fraud.

  • This is SO wrong, yet such a common and acceptable adoption practice in this country.
How we can continue to deny fathers their rights and exploit mothers for their children in the name of adoption and STILL people think is it all warm and fuzzy is beyond me. These children are NOT unwanted, maybe ill timed, maybe unprepared for, but NEVER in danger of being abused.. just parents that need some support and assistance NOT having their children removed form them and the parental rights transferred to another, more wealthy, “more deserving” family.

The saddest part is that that we all know that the adoptive family will fight it.. they will cry that “they are the only family that poor buddy has ever known” meanwhile THEY are the ones keeping him from his father who WANTS him. If they had decency they would turn around and give that child back. Its NOT about what is best for that boy. If it was then he would be with his FATHER. Its legalized buying and kidnapping.

As his biological father, this man should have the right to custody of his own child.

The courts in NC and many other state are so one sided in rulings for the female gender it’s laughable. My heart goes out to this man because I know how ruthless and vindictive a scorned woman can be, and it’s a damn shame that one person gets to decide the fate of that life she brought into the world.
