WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Most of the matchups this coming Friday on the high school gridiron are top notch. West Brunswick vs. East Bladen pits a pair of Waccamaaw Conference teams that haven’t lost yet in league play. Hoggard vs. Laney is a great matchup for the opening week of the Mideastern Conference. New Bern vs. New Hanover steals the show though. Both teams are undefeated. Both squads are state ranked. Friday’s showdown will be held at Wilmington’s Legion Stadium at 7:30. NEW YORK (AP) — There appears to be good news coming out of negotiations between the NFL and its locked-out field officials.
With Commissioner Roger Goodell at the table, the league and referees’ union were pressing today toward a settlement to end the three-month work stoppage. The two sides were still in discussions late this evening following a 14-hour session on Tuesday.
Both sides were said to be nearing a deal and several reports put regular officials back at work perhaps as early as Sunday.
ESPN reported that “an agreement in principle is at hand.” The New York Times said the sides “were closing in” on a new agreement.
The NFL declined to confirm that a deal was imminent.
The contract stalemate has thawed following questionable calls by replacement officials during the first three weeks of the regular season. Talks continue two days after a controversial decision cost the Green Bay Packers a win.
