WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Screen Gems Studios took time to honor former state Rep. Danny McComas this weekend as he heads to a new position at the NC Ports Authority.

McComas worked to help bring a movie studio to Wilmington more than 25 years ago at a time when he says the city was at its greatest need.

“It was an unemployment situation similar to what we have now,” McComas said. “Right now I believe North Carolina is number five in the nation. This is an industry that generates jobs, good clean jobs. You get films that are produced here and then in the trailers you see North Carolina.”

In late August, Gov. Bev Perdue named McComas the Ports Authority chair.
