ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - A defense expert says a 40-year-old South Carolina man standing trial in the killing of his former girlfriend in Asheville has the mental capacity of a 9-year-old.
The Asheville Citizen-Times reports (http://avlne.ws/SAQNqu ) that psychologist Jerry Noble testified Tuesday that Danny Gosnell has an IQ of 64 at the Campobello, S.C., man's first-degree murder trial.
Authorities say Gosnell shot 42-year-old Brenda Williams with a shotgun outside her home in August 2011 because he was angry she broke up with him. The two met on an Internet dating site.
Williams' two daughters were home when their mother was killed and said Gosnell shot Williams in the head, then shot her again.
