Former Congressman joins debate watching party in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Supporters of President Barack Obama gathered at a private home in Wilmington to watch the presidential debate Wednesday night. They discussed their views as local and state office seekers addressed the crowd leading up the main event.

One guest was former Democratic Rep. Bob Etheridge.

"The key is jobs and the economy," Etheridge said. "You can't talk about that without talking about education, the things that support economic growth and job opportunities for the future and having the kind of environment, good clean environment and drinking water, that make us what we are as a great nation."

The group looks forward to future local, state and national debates.

So sorry you all did not have much to do.

The Great Debate?

If you are interested in understanding the debate, you may want to watch what happens behind the scenes.

"The Obama and Romney campaigns have secretly negotiated a detailed contract that dictates many of the terms of the 2012 presidential debates. This includes who gets to participate, as well as the topics raised during the debates."
