WILMINGTON, NC (STARNEWSONLINE.COM) — The Wilmington Convention Center’s management is proposing parking changes following a recent bottleneck that delayed hundreds trying to exit the parking garage.

The changes are designed to better prepare the center for large events that end at once and create a potential for a traffic backup.

Susan Eaton, the center’s general manager, proposed several short-term solutions in an email to Wilmington City Manager Sterling Cheatham. In an email to city council members, Cheatham said officials were working on immediate and permanent operational changes to correct the problem.

did it take this long for the GM to offer some short term suggestions? It’s not like the CC has been over run with large gatherings and she had no time to anticipate a problem.

Is this where folks will park if that ballpark/albatross somehow passes the referendum next month?

Vote NO on a taxpayer funded ball park.

I really don’t forsee the convention center creating many traffic problems.

they are going to raise taxes to make another wasteful decision to fix a problem they created, that taxpayers didn’t want in the first place.

One would think that a parking problem of this kind would have been anticipated prior to its occurrence. That’s Convention Center 101 at CFCC.

Oh well, with so much business occurring so much of the time, it’s easy to understand how management’s copy of “Convention Center Management for Dummies” could have been misplaced in the shuffle.

Thank goodness anticipatory management will never be a problem with the new “Multi-Use / Elysian Fields / Family-Fun-Center / Baseball Stadium”. With Mandatlanta continuing to tell city “leaders” what to do, about the only thing they’ll have to worry about is making sure families don’t picnic on the toxic grass of the new city park.

The CON Center runs on tax dollars not revenue. It’s a lonely place most of the time. But we are told it’s exactly what our town must have. Now our city leaders want ANOTHER tax dollar funded, lonely place venture, with only about 2% of local residents attending the games. This venue will be ANOTHER bottleneck traffic pattern as well. What IS the game???

I AGREE WITH YOU ABOUT THE CC TRAFFIC PROBLEMS. WERE THESE TWO EVENTS HELD IN THE CC? OR TWO DIFFERENT PLACES? AND THE PARKING WAS FOR BOTH EVENTS WAS IN THE SAME PARKING AREA? 450 PARKING PLACES ISN’T REALLY ALL THAT MUCH FOR TWO EVENTS. GET WITH IT MEDIA.
