WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY)– The Cape Fear Heart Walk took place Saturday at University of North Carolina Wilmington. The walk is an annual fundraiser benefiting the American Heart Association in the Cape Fear region. More surprising than the 1,500 walkers who attended the event this weekend, were the many different people under the tents volunteering for the great cause.
EMS officers at the New Hanover Regional Medical Center had a full tent this Saturday. They had one goal in mind. They want to teach everyone in New Hanover County how to save lives using hands-only CPR. The Heart Walk was a perfect opportunity for officers to train people with pre-existing heart problems, and everyone else, on CPR. They say performing compressions promptly and correctly on someone who is in cardiac arrest could be the difference between life and death.
