WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The ABC show “Shark Tank,” which puts entrepreneurs in front of deep-pocketed potential investors, is looking for fresh meat, and it may have found what it’s searching for in the Port City. A local company says it is chumming the water and hoping for a big catch.
Wilmington-based Freaker USA is heading to the “Shark Tank.”
The comfy bottle sweater keeps your hands dry and your drinks cold, but where did the contraption that fits every can come from?
“It somehow magically turned from a knitting group to cutting up old sweaters turned into having this thing that we now call a Freaker that fits everything and keeps your drinks cold,” co-founder Zach Crain said.
Crain says the drink insulator has been infiltrating the Cape Fear for several years. Now, the invention is getting some national attention, but don’t confuse it with a Koozie.
“A Freaker is different from a normal Koozie in the way that a normal Koozie is no fun, it’s bulky, silly advertisements and only fits one thing,” Crain said, “where a Freaker is fun designs, lifestyley, stretches and fits on everything.”
No kidding, this thing can stretch, and each design is different so there is one for every style.
Crain cannot say much about his pitch on “Shark Tank,” but he does say he thinks his product has potential.
“What it was like to do it? It was something. I don’t know what I can even say on what it was like to do it, but I had a good time,” Crain said.
So you’ll have to stay tuned to see how far the Freakers go.
Crain says it has been hard growing his company in this tough economy, but opportunities like appearing on “Shark Tank” help.
