WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Repairs on the Wrightsville Beach Drawbridge are running behind schedule. The completion date has moved from spring of next year to July 27.

The DOT says repairs include a larger control house, painting and replacement of the steel deck.

Currently only one lane each way is open, but contractors say that on holidays they may reopen the other lanes for traffic.

Tired of Traffic Delays

The traffic delay getting on and off Wrightsville Beach is ridiculous. During the weekend of the Beach to Battleship Triathlon, traffic was backed up to the Mayfaire entrance on Eastwood Rd.

So, how does DOT think traffic is going to go if they let this project linger into the summer months? The DOT needs to work extended hours on nights and weekends and get it done in a timely, projected manner.

There is NO way they can continue this after the month of March! They can not even handle the problems it is creating now on a daily basis at this time of the year!
I live on WB and it takes me 10 minutes each time I want to return to the island and if its near the top of the hour (bridge raises for boats)then could be 20 minutes or more!! So I agree, work 24 hours if needed, they can not allow this to extend into any summer months at all!!!
