WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — An eight-year-old Girl Scout may have earned a merit badge in compassion after raising money for victims of Hurricane Sandy.

Rileigh Pedersen of Wilmington raised more $208 selling homemade cookies to her neighbors to donate to the American Red Cross for disaster relief.

“I just wanted to help,” Rileigh, who attends Parsley Elementary, said.

If you would like to help with the recovery from Sandy, text REDCROSS to 90999 to make a $10 donation.
