WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Mike Leggett, a co-owner and reporter for Leland’s “Local News Review” newspaper died last night after a brief illness.

Leggett, 55, was active in the community in northern Brunswick County, including volunteering with the North Carolina Christmas Festival and Parade and the Cape Fear Italian Festival, as well as covering news for the LNR, which recently ceased publication.

LNR co-owner John Crowder says his old partner will be greatly missed.

“I think we’ve lost a good community-spirited person with Mike,” Crowder said. “He always stayed involved and made sure, particularly when we have the newspaper, he kept the town council and the police department fairly honest.”

Over the last several years, Leggett, a longtime friend to WWAY NewsChannel 3, appeared on newscasts with updates from the LNR and the Leland area.

His memorial service is at 4 p.m. Saturday at First Baptist Church of Leland with visitation before at 3 p.m.
