WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -– US Airways says it will launch daily non-stop service from Wilmington International Airport to Reagan National Airport (DCA) in Washington, DC, starting February 1.

Currently, US Airways operates seasonal service between Reagan National and Wilmington on the weekends. The new seasonal daily service with two flight each way between the airports will be operated by US Airways Express carrier Chautauqua Airlines on 50-seat Embraer 145 aircraft.

ILM Director Jon Rosborough says the airline was not specific about what it means by seasonal service for the daily flights.

“I think if we get ridership up, it’ll stay full time,” Rosborough said. “If it starts to taper off in non-seasonal times, they might pull it for a couple of months like Allegiant does, and then bring it back.”

US Airways already offers daily service between Wilmington and Charlotte and Philadelphia, while Delta flies daily between the Port City and Atlanta. Allegiant has service to Orlando-Sanford Airport in Florida.
