RALEIGH, NC (AP) — North Carolina officials are rushing ahead of a looming deadline on how to create a new one-stop online shop to help people buy affordable health insurance.

Governor-elect Pat McCrory and Gov. Bev Perdue were holding separate meetings Friday to sort out options ahead of a deadline set long ago and now coming up fast.

States have until next Friday to submit an outline for an online health insurance marketplace. Washington will run the exchanges in states that are not ready or willing.

The General Assembly did not act in the past two years, waiting to see if the U.S. Supreme Court upheld the Affordable Care Act. Now that the court cleared the law and President Obama has been re-elected, dozens of states are in a last-minute scramble.
