Area businesses serve those who have served

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Many area businesses are saying thank you to our nation’s armed forces with specials and discounts for current and past military members.

At Applebee’s, veterans can receive a free meal from a special menu. Krispy Kreme is giving veterans a free donut and small coffee. Other restaurants with deals for veterans include Olive Garden, Outback, Red Robin, and Texas Roadhouse.

And the deals are not limited to meals, Wilmington Walgreens are giving 15-20% discounts off select items to veterans and active duty military.

And to think that just the other week, Connie Majure-Rhett, the CEO and president of the Wilmington Chamber of Commerce, said that Wilmington needed to jump on “every enhancement we can (referring to the taxpayer funded baseball stadium) to make this community viable.”

Too bad she’ll never understand that a community’s viability is really all about things like a community coming together to generously support its own. That’s what the concept of “community” is really all about
