NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The votes have been canvassed and the results are in. The official results show incumbent Mike McIntyre beat challenger David Rouzer in the race for the state’s 7th Congressional District.

In a statement McIntyre says, “I’m honored that the voters of eastern North Carolina have put their trust in me to represent them in Washington. I thank them for their confidence and pledge to continue to put their interests first.

McIntyre goes on to say, “Our country faces many challenges and we need less partisan rhetoric and more cooperation in Washington. I will continue my work to lower the deficit, cut government spending and red tape so small businesses can flourish and we can create more jobs.”

The results show McIntyre beat Rouzer by only 655 votes out of the more than 336,000 votes that were cast in the 12 county district. Since that’s less than a one percent margin, Rouzer can call for a recount.

Rouzer’s camp sent out a statement saying that they would release a statement early next week regarding the final results.

“Way to go Mike”….another tea leaf bites the dust!!!

Congratulations on your win. Even though the dice were loaded against you your record spoke for itself. What I would love to see is that both Democrats and Republicans who have voted for illegal gerrymandering in the past be prosecuted and barred from elective office.

So another ‘tea leaf bits the dust’ you say. With the way the district is now drawn up you really don’t think Mike won without any support from some tea party members do you. Take a look at conservative Brunswick County where Mike only lost by a squeaker where if you look at all the other republican candidates and how they did, he should have been trampled. Yet he was not. You still don’t understand? Let me lay it out for you. Mike being the middle of the road type pulled in his normal Democratic party. He also pulled in (like always) some GOP moderates. What you do not see is the group of what you call ‘tea leafs’ that did not like the way the GOP shoved Rouser down our throats and voted to show them we did not like it. So, old blind one, look again. In fact ask Mike. He knows it even if you do not. The real question is, did the good old boy club get the message?

More like another Pelosi, Reid, Obama robot is staying in Congress.

  • Guest9743 says:

Yeah, you’re right the district was drawn up so Mr. McIntyre would lose, so there’s actually egg on the face of the republican led legislature and sure some tea leafs voted for Mike but they are probably the ones that don’t listen to or don’t believe all the right wing spin and hatred spewed out every morning on the local radio stations here in Wilmington….kudos to them. But regardless of who won seats to the North Carolina legislature, Republican or Democrat, I hope they can, along with the new govenor get down to business and fix what “ails” North Carolina. One thing they can probably do right away is lower or drastically slash gasoline taxes and secondly make these freeloading moped riders get their vehicles registered and have insurance on them, that in my opinion would be a good start.

  • Donna Blankenship says:

RAleigh republicans changed the line to pick their candidate, they said Rouzer was the only one that could beat McIntyre. How did that work out for you. The Republicans in Raleigh are no different than DC. They get elected and they select who they want in office not who the people want in office.

  • Erlkoenig says:

Yeah, Mike. Keep cutin’ those deals and buyin’ those votes, then circle back here in two years with your “I’m a conservative shtick”.

  • Guest numbers_cruncher says:

That could be only 1 or 2 miscounted ballots for each precinct, YES YES YES a recount is necessary and I hope they can get some volunteers to assist recounting to keep costs down.

  • Wilmington Observer says:

Can they (along with allother candidates) please remove the campaign signs that are littering our highways and biways?

    Sincere congratulations to Rep. McIntyre!
