CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — The Carolina Beach Town Council held a special meeting Tuesday night to discuss ongoing recruitment for an interim Town Manager, and two elected officials’ vacancies.

This comes after Mayor Ray Rothrock, Councilman Lonnie Lashley, and Town Manager Tim Owens resigned last week.

Only three council members remain on the elected board. Mayor Pro Tem Steve Shuttleworth is acting as Mayor. The board has a process to fill vacant seats.

“Yesterday we sent out a notice to all the public saying, this is the process we are going to go through.” Shuttleworth told WWAY. “Any town resident, town voter that’s of age that can serve on council. If they have an interest please send in their application, or just a basic statement of interest by noon on (November) 3(,” he said.

Council will then choose about six people to talk to at a December 4 special meeting and make a final decision on December 11.

There was a candidate for Mayor and candidates that ran for council that ran for office and received a great number of votes from the voting public in Carolina Beach. Why aren’t they being contacted and asked to serve? They were willing to spend their time and money before to serve the Town and probably would not have bailed out at the first sign of adversity. I know Pat Efird would never have abandoned her post.

There aren’t many people willing to be bulldozed over by Shuttleworthless and his flunkies. Good luck to any “applicants”!

I agree! Pat was a hard worker for this town for many years, bring her back!

small minds in a over-built small NC town that has completely become warped as a co-dependent solely dependent on tourism income.
