City council one step closer to deciding fate of old building

WILMINGTON (WWAY) -- City council is one step closer in deciding the fate of the old Taste of Country Restaurant at 236 South Front Street.

Council approved an amendment that allows for a future decision to repair or demolish the old downtown building. At the request of council members, city staff will begin to study alternatives to demolition.

Tuesday's vote orders the property to be closed and vacated.

Council delayed the issue in September after the owner asked for more time to renovate or sell the building.
