WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Store owners in the Cape Fear say this was the busiest weekend of shopping they’ve seen in years.
Today, Cyber Monday is in full effect, and many people are logging on for holiday deals.
Forget the long lines and camping out for good deals. From the comfort of your own home or office you can get great gifts and save money.
Businesses in wilmington say they are grateful for the online boost, because it gives their hardworking employees and their payroll a little break.
“Black Friday is a great day, but it requires a lot of man power those days, whereas something like Cyber Monday you’re still making the same type of sales but you don’t have the same labor costs,” Michael Ussery at Edge of Urge said. “You don’t have to have as many people helping live customers as you do online.”
But just because the orders are online does not mean the work is done.
“We’re shipping wine constantly,” said Toni Incorvaia of Noni Bacca Winery. “We’re shipping wine as far out as Washington and California. We send a lot of wine to California, believe it or not.”
Many store owners say they wanted to give their shoppers a break and still provide a custom product.
“Everyone’s talking about the bad economy, and we felt like we needed to do something, especially because we are a small business,” Incorvaia said.
After such a busy weekend, some stores say they are relieved to have most of their sales happening online.
“Cyber Monday gives us a chance to reorganize our store,” Ussery said. “We don’t have to run around as much on the floor, but upstairs on the second floor, where they’re doing shipping and inventory and other things like that, it’s a mad house up there. But it’s nice down here that it’s calm and cool today.”
Businesses are also utilizing smartphone apps and social networking sites like Instagram and Pinterest to promote their deals by showcasing items and discounts.
It’s not too late to log on and cash in. Most of the online discounts for Cyber Monday are good until midnight.
