RALEIGH, NC (AP) — County election boards in eastern North Carolina are determining whether very close outcomes in three races earlier this month are accurate.
The State Board of Elections said several county boards in the races for the 7th Congressional District, a state Senate district and a District Court judgeship began the recount process Monday morning. A few counties won’t get started until Tuesday.
County officials are running optical scan ballots through machines again and retabulating electronic voting machine totals to determine whether results from county canvasses earlier this month are correct.
The canvass showed Republican David Rouzer trailing Democratic incumbent Mike McIntyre by 655 votes in the southeastern 7th District. Democratic state Sen. Stan White of Dare County is behind GOP challenger Bill Cook by 32 votes.
