CAROLINA BEACH, NC (WWAY) — Carolina Beach Town Council is holding another special meeting tonight. The three remaining members are discussing filling positions left vacant earlier this month.
Mayor Ray Rothrock, Councilman Lonnie Lashley and Town Manager Tim Owens all packed up their offices and resigned earlier this month. Now town council is beginning the process to fill the spots left empty.
“I’m open to anybody, but I look for those people who are looking at some innovative ideas, maybe think outside the box a little bit,” Councilman Bob Lewis said.
Lewis says so far he has been pleased with the response from residents wanting to step up.
“It seems like we’ve had probably about seven or eight people to apply so far, and we’ve got until Friday of this week,” Lewis said.
Mayor Pro Tem Steve Shuttleworth says the remaining council members have been working overtime while the town deals with not having a permanent manager.
“Being the fact that we have a temporary town manager who’s our planning director, we’ve offered our support to him and to meet weekly until we can have a full-member council,” Shuttleworth said.
But Shuttleworth is pleased with the progress on appointing a new town manager.
“We met with one. We’re waiting to meet with another, and then we’re going to make a decision,” he said.
Both Lewis and Shuttleworth say the board plans to make its final decisions at the December 11 meeting.
