WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A Wilmington man is in jail after police say he stabbed his wife during a fight over their food stamps.

WPD officers responded to 1013 South 6th Street around 11:15 p.m. Thursday. The alleged victim told dispatch her husband during an argument. When they got to the home, officers determined that Lamondo Murray, 40, had been arguing with his wife over an Electronic Benefit Transfer (EBT) card.

The victim told officers that Lamando came into the bedroom and stabbed her in the back. Investigators say the victim had a small laceration in the small of her back, for which she received several staples.

Murray is charged with assault with a deadly weapon. He is in the New Hanover County jail without bond.

The Department of Corrections website shows Murray has convictions for drug possession and possession of a firearm by a felon.

Sad, isn’t it? Let’s just give them to everyone. We are paying for it with our taxes, and this is the direct result. I didn’t know that felons could get food stamps…. CRAZINESS!!!

  • Nunya says:

If u don’t know the story mind your business
Cause it’s two sides to every story and I know
Dude and his wife been together for 20 plus
Years. Way more to this story trust!!!!!

  • GuestX says:

Soooo let me get this right,if I become a felon, the goverment will give me a card to get free food with. What a country!

  • Jim hundlely says:

Nice, hey loser, get a job and get off food stamps!

  • Citizen of the Republic says:

    How much of a threat?

Maybe his drugs killed somebody we don’t know about.
    Felon with a gun…come on.
Now stabbing someone(allegedly) I say that’s a pretty big threat.

Maybe being overweight is way out of character, but the other charges show how he has built himself into a threat.

Flatten his tires, put a parking boot on his rims, and tow him to the nearest go to jail, do not pass go block.

  • GuestReality says:

How “way out of character” can it be for someone who already “has convictions for drug possession and possession of a firearm by a felon”? It sounds right in line to me!

  • PublicAvenger says:

This tax supported criminal is overweight from all the food stamp food, I have to pay for.

  • windsnake6969 says:

Way out of character for someone previously convicted of multiple felonies and illegal owns weapons??? Hahaha, thanks for the laugh today!! And being ‘paralyzed from the waist down’ is irrelevant — obviously he can still use his arms/hands so assault is entirely possible. Oh, and since he can still use his arms/hands then he could technically go get a nice little desk JOB and quit being a leach to society! But then again I digress ….

  • GuestNCNative says:

*facepalm* You’re absolutely correct, of course. It’s just scientific fact, isn’t it, that paralyzed = incapable of committing a crime.

You asked how much of a threat could he really be. Ummmm…I’d say his threat level – so far – includes stabbing his WIFE. Maybe not more than superficial this time, but does he really deserve to be offered a second time?

Also, you must be telling the truth that this is way out of character too. That mugshot most definitely looks like the face of a man who is happy and meek at all times.

  • BigAuk031 says:

He is in a wheelchair and has been paralyzed from the waist down for over 20 years. How much of a threat could he really be. Plus he is overweight. This is way out of character too.

  • Guest525 says:

Robert what culture could you be trying to talk about? Maybe you should look at the Census Bureau Statistical Brief on who receives foodstamps. Oops, what you think “people of this culture” can’t read, or forms two (2) letters to make a word? Guess what, someone in your family probably receives foodstamps, medicaid, and other “entitlements”, just visit your local Social Services office and see the different races there applying for assistance so they can EAT AND LIVE! Maybe next week you won’t have a J.O.B., maybe some company won’t hire you based on your race? Hopefully you self appreciating people on here won’t EVER have to apply for assistance!

  • Robert Green says:

He is still a liabilty to society , except he now gets a fulltime babysitter and the taxpayer are still footing the bill. Give Obama a ring , maybe he has a fund setup for bail for his entitlement / welfare constituents , who make it a lifestyle. The people from this culture could care less about the legal repercussions. He has a felonious record , which he will never be able to secure employment in an economy that has a surplus of workers. Ole Lamondo will probably be just content laid up in jail instead of laying up with Mama , except jail will be a structured environment.

  • GuestUSMC says:

Let’s set the record straight. Foodstamps are not “entitlements”. They are handouts. Social Security and Medicare are entitlements, meaning that those who paid for them by working and paying taxes are “entitled” to the benefits. Those on Medicaid, foodstamps and a myriad of other government funded programs neither worked nor paid for what they are getting, hence they are free handouts to which they are not entitled. Understand the difference now?

  • Worker&Taxpayer says:

A perfect example of one that feels “Entitled”. He needed a fix using his “free food” card and he is addicted to it. Just like any other junkie, he went off the deep end without “his fix”.

Now, if had been a productive member of society he would have been in bed that time of night so he could get up early to go to his job. But, he is “entitled” and therefore does not a productive member of society nor does he want to be. His only job was to put on his bedroom slippers and go to the mailbox once a month to get his check.
Now, he (if convicted of the charge) is a felon. Like an other contributor has already stated, he now has “three hots and a cot” to look forward to.

So it is not all bad. If the rest of us are going to have to keep him up, then at least we may be successful in keeping him off the streets for a while.

  • jj says:

Hey, this poor guy most have been hungry.. Now he will get 3 hots and a cot..

  • John says:

What a low life couple. Lets build more public housing here in the downtown area so we can be entertained more by these subhuman life forms.

  • Guest770 says:

I’m so glad my hard earned money goes to these idiots so they can have a EBT card – yea right!

  • Windsnake6969 says:

For an individual so desperate to get his greedy hands on someone else’s foodstamps, he sure does not look like he is starving!

  • Citizen of the Republic says:

    drug possesion
    possession of firearm by felon

Now accused of assault with a deadly weapon.

Does anyone see where this is headed?
If guilty, a slap on the wrists. Or maybe suspension of food stamps.
