WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — State and local leaders gathered today to honor Lanny Wilson by naming the bridge at MLK Parkway and 23rd Street after him.
Wilson served nine years on the NC Board of Transportation, before resigning in 2010. The move came as federal prosecutors were set to release a 51-count indictment against Ruffin Poole, a former aid to Gov. Mike Easley. Wilson was not charged but was identified in the indictment.
Wilson did not want to talk to reporters today, but we managed to ask if he feels he’s moved on from the controversy.
“That’s water under the bridge,” Wilson said. “I have moved forward with my life, and I am happy.”
In his speech, he quoted scripture and referred to today’s ceremony as a new day in his life.
