Autocross promotes controlled driving and Toys For Tots

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- An autocross event brought 73 cars and a variety of people to the CFCC parking lot this weekend. Autocross is a driving competition all about balancing both speed and control, but this event decided to put a spin on things by also donating to Toys for Tots. Everyone who brought a toy or made a donation received a discount on their entry fee.

Cape Fear Chapter Coordinator Chris Severt says the competition not only benefits Toys for Tots, but benefits drivers.

"People like cars and they like to drive them. This is a safe affordable way to have fun with your car that you do not get to do out on the street. And we live down here at the coast. There are not many fun roads; everything is flat and straight. So this is a way to drive your car aggressively in a controlled environment"

Chris says events like this one happen every month. To get involved, head to his website at www.ncrscca.com

Thanks to WWAY for the

Thanks to WWAY for the coverage and to every participant at the event on Saturday. We collected over $500 worth of donations for Toys for Tots. Special thanks to Flaming Amy's for bringing the Sacred Burrito Bus out to serve lunch and to our friends the Cape Fear Roller Girls for helping sell NCR/CFRG calendars. Get your copy on ebay or at Flaming Amy's Burrito Barn. The event was a huge success and a great way to close out the 2012 season. Visit our website or find us on Facebook if you would like to get involved with the North Carolina Region of the Sports Car Club of America.

Wish I still had my Alfa!

I stopped by the event and watched for a few minutes. I hadn't auto-crossed in years(ARSCCA),I still miss the fun and camaraderie. Do SOLO II stock rules still allow small pickups?

pickup trucks

Yes, certain pickup trucks are legal. You can see a red Ford Lightning parked in the background of the video clip. It's been known to make the occasional run at non-points events. The rulebook can be found under the "Solo" tab of the NCR SCCA website or you can ask in the "Solo/Autocross" section of the website's Forum. We'd love to have you join us at an event in 2013.
