WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Thousands more people will be able to enjoy the North Carolina Azalea Festival’s concerts at a larger location next April.

Organizers announced Cape Fear Community College’s parking lot on North Front Street across from the Schwartz Center will be the venue for the festival’s headliner concerts. The extra space will nearly double capacity from UNCW’s Trask Coliseum, where the concerts had been held for years.

The concerts will now also feature food and beverage sales. Organizers hope the changes will keep ticket prices desirable and secure more big-name acts.

Festival organizers say they will make provisions for CFCC student parking and any students who may be displaced during the concerts.

It will much more enjoyable having the concerts as outdoor events along with (hopefully)better tasting and more creative food options.

Why not use the new Convention Center? Why did we build it? Why did we pay for it? Why is it there?

  • Guest111 says:

I think it’s a total slap in the face to the convention center to be overlooked for this. But what do I know? I bet Saffo is having seizures over this. I can’t imagine the horror at trying to park downtown for these events and to displace the students is just a shame.

Beautiful vista’s of the Cape Fear River
Indoor quality catering that has won awards
    Air Conditioned comfort

And they can’t book a darned concert?
    Now its being held outdoors?
    In a parking lot?

Please – can someone tell me why?

What is wrong with the Management group there?
Its not like they didn’t have a year to possibly plan for this concert.
