WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — New Hanover County Commissioner Brian Berger was sworn in as a member of the Cape Fear Public Utility Authority Board of Directors this morning.

Berger replaces former County Commissioner Jason Thompson.

Berger was a no-show at November’s CFPUA meeting, but today he arrived ready to take his oath of office.

A year ago fellow commissioners pulled Berger from all committee and board assignments because of his attendance problems.

Back to this thread. Remember, Berger was once on the CFPUA Board, only to be stripped of his assignments due to the restraining order violation and other personal problems back a year ago.

Berger was late to the first meeting where he was renominated to the CFPUA Board (due to Jason Thompson’s departure). He did show up in time to be sworn in on Wednesday. Yesterday, the Commissioners said he could be on the CFPUA Board (as they were handing out new assignments). Brian Berger said he wasn’t interested as it was not an effective use of his time (playing Gameboy) and expertise (what is that exactly?).

Roses are red, violets are blue, I am schizophrenic, and so am I.

Just waiting to see who the commissioners select to the CFPUA Board now…

You said it best, I guess Wilmingtonians love those who are domestic abusers who cant seem to get their act together to saves their life.

CFPUA is an escape goat for City of Wilmington. The city could not afford to repair the old lines and pipes and did not want to be the bad guys and raise rates and taxes so they sold out to CFPUA and i am sure did not tell of how old the water and sewer lines were. If Wilmington would have been doing repairs and replacing old lines we would not have the mess we have today. Not to mention keep building more houses and putting more strain on the system that is old as Wilmington itself. Before you point the finger sit back and think about how old the pipes are and question the age of the pipe that breakes.. You may find out that its Old Wilmington pipes and not new pipes coming from repairs from CFPUA… they are just cleaning up the mess the city left.. that they could not afford.. sell to CFPUA or take the risk of the state taking control of it.. This city is old and in need of repairs and replaced pipes. Not a fualt.. just old mixed with new growth on a overused system. How many of the ppl that complain would get off thier butts to repair and craphouse!

Was talking with a friend the other day about the CFPUA and all the problems it seems to be having………

“If it isn’t the constant sewerage spills or billing problems, it’s the blatant salary increases and lack of accountability” I complained.

“Hey”, he said, “Cheer up! Things could be worse!”

So I took his advice and cheered up. And now it’s even worse than before!

Gee, I sure won’t be taking his advice anymore!

SCUMBAG – Send him back to the trailer park from which he came

  • Guestwit

I am glad to see him back- yes he made mistakes- but overall he has kept his word and done a good job. many of us would gladly support him if he ran again. By the way,he was there as often as Catlin. Anyway he is a good guy and he has helped many of us.

Propensity for negative PR and a subtle nuance for disrespecting the entire county commission, I find it disturbing that HE would be on the Board of Directors of the CFPUA.
In the last 12 months over 3.8M gallons of sewerage has been spilled into our local estuaries. At 8.35 pounds per gallon that’s 35M pounds of toxic waste going into the Cape Fear River, making CFPUA the largest polluter of that waterway.
This agency is in need of much more stringent oversight and given his eschewing of responsible governance, Berger may not have been the right choice for this.
I hope I am wrong because the lack of cleanliness of the Cape Fear is a tragedy in the making.

God wish this clown would just go AWAY what a complete joke

You need help more than those you attack, If it comes to trailer park rubbish-your own words show you are IT!He has voted against tax increase, kept spending down and we have a trnsparemcy we didnt have before-you do nothing but show your own ignorance-by posting the same rubbish under five different names—spare us–get some help.

  • Guestarticulatore

    Congratulations Comm. Berger!

  • Tex-Mex

Won’t this cut into his Call of Duty: Black Ops play time?

  • Tom Brown

Please don’t let him read, write, touch, or do ANYTHING on the board. You have to be kidding me!

  • Tracie C

Sheesh CFPUA, desperate for bodies to fill seats or what? I’ll wait to see the next news story when this clown screws up AGAIN!

  • Puh-lease

Consider this New Hanover County’s gift (inflicted?)to the CFPUA. They (CFPUA)don’t get a vote or a choice who serves on their board, Tracie. The only saving grace in the matter is that Berger is just one of eleven board members. Hard to do much damage.

  • no show

Am I missing something? Aren’t we as a community allowed to vote on this?
This freak should not be in any office.
    What an embarrassment!

If I am missing a public voting issue.. please inform! I am sure I am not the only one.

  • InformingU

Apparently you have been missing something for a long time. Maybe the media is doing a poor job of explaining it to you.

You (the people) did vote. Berger was elected as a NHC Commissioner in 2010. So you see, it was self-inflicted.

Agreed. Agreed. You are not missing out on a public voting issue…the County Commissioners (seperate government) gets to have two commissioners serve on the board. Same with the City of Wilmington (council members). Then the get to fill the board with other folks they like. So…they created it, still have their tenterhooks in it, but get to claim they have nothing to do with it and are no longer responsible for what CFPUA does.

    Your welcome.

  • southernmomma

wow!I can not believe this!He known for not showing up for meetings!wth! They could not find anyone better! This is pitiful!

  • Not you

Wow. It has never been so obvious that CFPUA was in search for puppets and not board members. Can we have Elmo sit on the board as well? Thanks CFPUA, because you weren’t bad enough already!

  • Not You 2

Not You…you really are clueless as to how this works, aren’t you? The New Hanover County Commissioners determine which commissioners sit on the various boards. Since Jason Thompson and Rick Catlin have recently departed the CFPUA Board, the Commissioners have named Berger…and will soon name someone else.

I would think you are a puppet for all the fluff in your brain.

  • liberdee

Why is it that he made it on time for swearing in, but missed the previous meeting? He will be late or absent for his own funeral. This is just ridiculous.

  • no show

    Thank you,
    I honestly did not know.
I must have just missed the voting before we moved here.

I will be in on this on the next go round.

  • Guest22

Brian is just like Obama – A True Leader

  • Citizen of the Republic

    This will surely improve CFPUA…….NOT

  • Hello..

    Deja Veux, All Over Again.

  • Guest, Just Another

Really? Berger? Thats going to be a cold seat during meetings. Why bother. May be able to save us some money though, that’s one or two less donuts and a cup of coffee that they won’t need to invest in, trickles down eventually.
