RALEIGH, NC (WWAY) — Sen. Bill Rabon has been selected to co-chair the powerful Senate Finance Committee. Rabon, a Republican from Southport who represents Brunswick, Columbus and Pender counties in the 8th District, will share the role with fellow Republican Sen. Bob Rucho of Mecklenburg County.

“Senators Rucho and Rabon are both hard-working legislators whose commitment to balancing the state budget without raising taxes will serve the Finance Committee well,” Senate President Pro Tempore Phil Berger said. “As the economy continues to recover, their leadership will be instrumental to reforming our antiquated tax system to encourage growth, lure businesses to North Carolina and jumpstart private sector job creation.”

The Finance Committee oversees the state’s tax system and controls the way in which state government collects revenue.

The one thing I hope Rabon starts to remember is which party he is supposed to represent, the one that wants to be fiscally responsible and control SPENDING, so far his voting record and comments cast a lot of doubt.
