COLUMBUS COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — An overturned tractor trailer has slowed traffic on US 74/76 in Columbus County. Only one eastbound lane is open at the scene of the accident between Lake Waccamaw and Delco.

Highway Patrol says the truck carrying wood chips was heading east on US 74/76 this morning when the driver lost control, drove off the road, wound up in the westbound lane, overcorrected back into the eastbound side, hit a concrete culvert and flipped the truck. Investigators are not sure what led to the wreck, but they say speed was not a factor.

No one was hurt.

Crews are working to empty the wood chips from the trailer so they can get the track back upright and clear the scene.

Passed by this West-bound just as the ambulance was arriving on the scene. Traffic was backed up in the Eastbound direction and NOTHING was moving. Glad the driver is OK.

All I can say is that he is one heck of a driver if he did what this report says. Headed east, went into the westbound lane, over corrected back into the east bound lane, hit a cement culvert and flipped. All this through the muddy median between the east and west bound lanes…I would hire him!
