Ashley girls and Hoke boys claim Brogden Championship

The Leon Brogden Holiday Basketball Tournament wrapped up on Saturday at UNCW.

Ashley High School claimed the first ever girls championship. The Eagles led most of the way but had to hold off Laney's surge late in the fourth quarter before walking off the court 39-37 winners. Tournament MVP Felicity Havens led Ashley with 20 points.

While it was an in-town team taking home the girls tourney, Hoke County used a 15-0 second quarter run to beat Hoggard 60-49 on the boys side. Trevor Singleton was named the MVP of the boys tourney.
