DURHAM, NC(WTVD) — Police said Saturday they have charged three young people in the murder of a 35-year-old man.

Investigators said the alleged victim – Johnny Danilo Villatoro, of South Woodcrest Street – was shot to death during a carjacking just before 7 p.m. in the 2900 block of Firth Street.

Justino Navarette Maya, 16, of 311 South LaSalle Street, a 14-year-old girl, and a 12-year-old girl are accused in the killing.

Detectives said the trio first encountered Villatoro on Avondale Drive Friday evening and asked him for a ride. He drove them to Firth Street where the carjacking and shooting occurred. Villatoro apparently did not know the three.

Police said the 12-year-old girl managed to shoot herself in the leg and stomach while in Villatoro’s SUV. Officers found the injured juvenile around 7:30 p.m. on Channing Court. They also located Villatoro’s stolen SUV behind an apartment building on Channing Court.

The juvenile has been released from the hospital and will face a murder charge.

Maya and the 14-year-old are already charged with murder. Maya was in the Durham County Jail. The girl was taken to a juvenile facility.

Clearly, the parents of these children neglected to teach them right from wrong leaving them vulnerable to becoming hardened criminals, shame on them! It baffles my brain learning that a twelve year old little girl picked up a gun, carjacked this man and pulled the trigger, like what the freak!

I have a twelve year daughter that loves to cling to my arm while visiting the mall. She does her homework and gets straight A’s in school. She takes great pride in impressing us, her teacher and most importantly herself. She plays with her bestfriends and I know where she is at all times. She does not use foul language, and will not even spell swear words out.

To read that a twelve year old was involved in a carjacking and murdering this man, baffles my brain. May this man RIP and his family and friends have the strength to recover from this horrific tragedy. Also, may these children serve the appropriate punishments for their crimes. Hopefully the 12 year old receives successful psychiatric treatment prior to her release. Which we all know will eventually happen due to her young age.
