OAK ISLAND, NC (WWAY) — A commercial fisherman has died after getting caught in a reel of nets on his boat in Brunswick County. The emergency call came in just after 11 a.m.

Wildlife officers say Jeremy Blair Myers, 34, of Wilmington, put out from Southport today and was fishing for menhaden and sea mullet when it happened. Someone tried to get him out of the netting, but could not save him before more help could arrive.

Myers’s body was brought back to shore at Coast Guard Station Oak Island.
