WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It looks like the North Carolina Department of Transportation will pick up the tab for a project that could help ease traffic at one of Wilmington’s busiest intersections.

The Consent Agenda for tomorrow night’s Wilmington City Council meeting includes a resolution for the DOT to add a right turn lane from westbound Oleander Drive to S. College Road in front of Trader Joe’s. The DOT will build the turn lane as part of a project to repave S. College Road between Shipyard Blvd. and Wilshire Blvd. this year, according to a draft of the agreement in Council’s agenda packet.

The new turn lane will not cost the City of Wilmington any money.

No word on when construction would begin if City Council approves the project.

Right turn on to College road only to rear end the last car in line going into Traders Joe’s too small parking lot.
Maybe the drivers will swerve left into the traffic going up College?
    Good grief……..

For anyone coming west on Oleander towards Traders Joes – if you want to avoid that fubar’d entrance take the right BEFORE you get to College (S47th st right next to Wilmington Real Estate) you can enter Traders Joes parking lot through the back.

I predicted that traffic flare up months ago. I realize that was a prime spot for a retail location; but one would have thought traffic patterns would have been considered before issuing the permits.

I was hoping that they would have taken over the RE building for additional parking. Hopefully business will calm down enough to allow for unfrettered access to the parking lot.
I know during Christmas it was tough….
