WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — In less than a month, people will be able to see Wilmington and Southport on the big screen. The Nicholas Sparks book-turned-movie “Safe Haven” is set to premier on Valentine’s Day. Ahead of the big event, fans got a chance tonight to do a Q&A session with Sparks and the movie’s big stars, Julianne Hough and Josh Duhamel at Mayfaire Cinemas.

Zoe Clarke, 6, played a stand-in role for actress Mimi Kirkland in the movie. She even made friends with Hough and Duhamel.

“It was really fun,” Clarke said.

The movie’s production company hired Vanessa Neimeyere, owner of “Vanessa Ncasting,” to cast the extras.

“It’s a very exciting job that I get to do, Neimeyere said. “We had a fourth of July parade where we needed about 2,000 extras for free and we were able to do that.”

Southport alderman and volunteer firefighter, Todd Coring, was joined by many other Southport natives for the event.

Coring says he’s just excited to see his town in the Hollywood spotlight.

“It’s really exciting for the town,” Coring said. “We’ve had a lot of good things coming from it, a lot of talk and I think everybody is excited to see the final product so I think it’s going to be great for Southport.”

You can catch the romance on February 14th.
