WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) -- Are you looking to roll back the clock on your age but don't want the pain associated with a face lift? A Wilmington doctor may have the solution for you.

Two months ago, 54-year-old Jennifer McLean was contemplating having a painful facelift procedure, but after a consultation with a surgeon, she had second thoughts.

"They wanted to go up and push in, and I saw the pictures on the computer, and I was like, 'That's not me,'" McLean said.

After looking over her options, she turned to the Wilmington Dermatology Center, where Dr. Rosalyn George had recently began performing a new laser-based procedure.

"We just started offering a laser called Fraxel," Dr. George said. "Fraxel has been around for a while, but this one has not. This one is a little more different, because it offers a little more versatility, so I can start treating something deep for wrinkles, or I can switch it over to a different wave length and use it for pigment, so it's nice to have it for that versatility."

McLean was skeptical at first, because she was worried about the side effects, but Dr. George assured her that today's laser technology has come a long way.

"Within the last ten years they have developed these lasers that are just treating these small areas of skin, so you're leaving most of the skin intact, and the recovery time was better. You can get to the same results for the wrinkles and the pigment, but you don't have all of the down time," George said.

McLean and Dr. George say the results from just one Fraxel procedure are almost unbelievable.

George says that people are taking better care of their skin and are trying to maintain their skin. She recommends these procedures to keep your skin looking good.

McLean says although her husband said she didn't need the treatment, he said she looked amazing afterwards.
