WHITEVILLE, NC (WWAY) — 24-year-old Daniel Davis was in the Columbus County Detention Center for a probation violation when he says the unthinkable happened.

In a jailhouse interview Davis rehashed the events surrounding the beating that left him with a severely broken jaw.

“They put me in the cell with murderers and rapists,” said Daniel Davis. “They brought cigarettes in from outside, and so somebody’s cigarettes got missing, and one of the other boys said they seen me grab them. I went to my cell and I was going to get my bible and read it like I do every evening and four men run in behind me and jumped me and started beating me. Four against one there wasn’t too much I could do, so my biggest concern was getting out of my cell door. When I come out of my cell them boys came out behind me and the rest of the pod jumped in and said if you hit the button and call for help we all are going to jump on you. The biggest thing that got me was that none of the C/O’s could see blood running down my mouth or nothing else and they’re setting in a 24 hour box watching everything. I sat in there for 13 hours and they shook the block down and I let the sergeant know. I told him I needed to go to the emergency room or I needed to see the nurse and he said the nurse is gone. I kept at them saying I need to see somebody I need to see somebody and they kept refusing me to see any kind of emergency. The nurse is gone, that’s what they kept telling me. In my situation I should have been taken to an emergency room.”

With his jaw wired shut Davis is currently unable to eat solid food, and has been forced to go on a liquid diet. “I talked to the doctor up there in Wilmington and asked him if I could get ensure,” said Davis. “I had to call my mother to pay for it and I get two of them a day. If it wasn’t for that I wouldn’t really be eating nothing. I sat in here three days before I ever had my jaw wired shut.”

Davis says it is now a waiting game to find out if he will be released due to a medical hardship or be extradited back to Horry County, South Carolina, where he is wanted for probation violation.

Another one.
Columbus county inmate beaten while in jail for a SC probation violation.
Then the very NEXT story is
Bladen county man beaten in jail for a questionable failure to appear.

What the hell is wrong with the county jail systems that allow this to happen? Look, I’ve got very little sympathy for someone who is in jail but for beatings to occur this is not right.

After reading what this guy had to say makes one wonder if he can read at all….his story about reading the bible is just his way of trying to make himself look like a saint but he probably can’t read OR write.

What’s “interesting”, to: windy, what will you do when you, oops! Get say, a simple little traffic ticket for , maybe a seatbelt violation, parking ticket, speeding ticket. Get thrown in jail because somebody in the courts system oops! Forgot to update the system and document that you went to court on the court date. Don’t think they would put you in a cell all by yourself. You would be put with whoever. With whatever kind of inmate(s) that are in there already. That wouldn’t give a rats be-hind who you were or what you were there for. Same thing if it were your sister, your mom, your granny…somebody could hang a sheet and beat you half to death “for no reason”. Would you want somebody to fight for your rights. One on one would be a fair fight …not 3 or more on one. The Court System is at fault, the Jail managment is at fault.

So this is the same individual who previously claimed to have been thrown in jail “for no reason”? Hmmm… being a fugitive in another state and having a warrant out for your arrest seems like good enough reason to me. And I am willing to bet that this criminal did a little something more that night than just “read the bible.” Sounds like he is just crying poor defenseless little white boy because he did not win that fight.

To you windy I bet you let your mouth drop open a lot . I bet you one of these people who has a comment on everything . You need to know your facts before you open your big trap. And if you don’t liked my response don’t respond to something you assume.

That “poor little white boy” probably needs someone to step up and look out for his rights. After all, he can’t exactly use the “race” card, and clearly doesn’t qualify for any kind of backing from any ‘civil rights’ authority. If he wasn’t a “poor little white boy” there would be a march downtown by now. And, if “all men were equal” he would have his march by now. And NO, I AM NOT A RACIST, but right is right, I don’t care what color you are. I will be the first to agree that jail is jail and not a playpen, I would be the first to say that public flogging should come back the chain gang should be re-instated. The jails wouldnt be so full and the road ditches would be cleaner. Prisoners are not slaves, they have broken the law and should have to earn their keep like the rest of us. They get “three hots and a cot” and don’t pay a red cent. That’s more than we can say for the homeless living under bridges. I bet some of those third world countries dont have their jails full, start chopping fingers off when caught steeling and theives would start keeping their fingers to themselves. Allow innocent people to defend their lives, family and homes and the home invasions would slow down. And NOOOO, guns don’t kill people, criminals kill people. Idiots want guns taken away, when will they open their eyes and see the truth, Take away the innocent’s rights to protect themselves and the evil people will still be the one’s with the guns, knives, bricks…… Wake up America!

Well folks, your tax dollars at work. How many more inmates are we going to have to foot the medical bills for because of incompetent detention officers. There have been several inmates sent to the hospital due to stupid officers. What about Jason Ward, among others, have had their civil rights violated at the hands of devious detention officers. Now those stupid officers are pulling time b/c they thought it was funny to watch Jason Ward get the hell beat out of him. Sounds like their boss may be incompetent, as well. I am curious how much money has been paid out, due to incompetent detention officers.

Another example of deviousness is Officer Greg Sibbett, whose trial is near. His attorney will try to convince the jury that Turbeville’s nose was broken at the jail–but, we know the truth
. He has a history of assaults.

Our wonderful “corrections” system… taking ordinary humans, turning them into animals, and releasing them to the rest of us.

But nobody cares until it happens to them…

staying out of the system is best eh? Why don’t some of these animals try it I wonder? So unfairly singled out….. I shed tears… SMH…..

He never said what he was on probation for? I wonder if that had anything to do with it?

Maybe he can sue his attackers.

Windy sure does like comment on things they know nothing about. Commenting on my story too.

We are all just one step away from jail. One honest mistake, one fit of rage, one crime of passion. You run a stop sign in Horry Co. S.C and you go to jail. It’s a lot easier than you think. Many upstanding community leaders have found themselves mugging for a police camera. Yes it can happen to you or your child. And if it does do you want people calling you an animal, or a worthless piece of trash who deserves to be beaten because the Jailer simply got bored or bribed. People go to jail to pay their debt to society, not to have their jaws broken. The Eight Amendment to the Constitution is set in place to assure this right. But when you have Jailers who have no respect for an inmates rights, much less for the Constitution they swore to uphold, this is the outcome. Sad but true folks, Friday night at the fights for the promise of a cigarette or extra breakfast tray from a perverted Jailer. That’s how a Jailer overcomes boredom or exacts revenge on an inmate he doesn’t like.
