SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — At tonight’s Board of Aldermen meeting in Southport, two young men were honored for their quick response to save a man’s life.

Last month, an elderly man drove his car into the Southport waterfront. The startled rescuers didn’t hesitate to jump in and save him from his sinking car. Tonight, the city recognized Charles Bryant Jr. and Jakob Puskas for their actions.

“It goes to show you that no matter what, in any situation, I’m able to respond and act with my duties to the community and just, as a civilian, to go out and show other people that we’re there for them,” Charles Bryant Jr., Bryant said. “We’re here to help them out at all times.”

The board presented awards to the young men for their heroic actions. If it wasn’t for their quick response, the ending may have been tragic. The humble heroes say they were just glad the man was OK.
