WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — We’re still more than a year and a half away from the mid-term elections, but a challenger threw his hat in the ring to run for US Senate.

Wilmington was the first stop on Greg Brannon’s campaign tour this morning. The Tea Party conservative wants to unseat Democrat Kay Hagan.

“I was raised by a single mom, I have a younger brother, grew up in a working class neighborhood,” Brannon, an obstetrician from Cary, said. “I was the first member of my family to go to college. Fortunately I got a scholarship and was able to become a doctor. It’s been the dream of my life, and I had the opportunity to live the american dream.”

Now the conservative is calling out supporters in an effort to take over current Sen. Hagan’s seat.

“I believe central planning has destroyed individual rights we have to get back to the understanding that when individuals are in charge of their freedom, society is at its best,” Brannon said.

It’s a race Hagan isn’t focused on yet.

“I am so focused on the sequester, the situation on hand, the debt the deficit the impacts of the jobs and the economy in North Carolina,” she said. “I am working hard in Washington right now.”

In addition to what he stands for, the other question of the day: Why such an early start to campaigning?

“Being a non-politician, a servant citizen, I gotta get the name recognition out there, and I want to go around and spread the message of liberty and freedom,” Brannon said.

He kicks off his race nearly two years before the election, talking with Wilmington voters.

“I said, ‘I’ll just come on out and talk to him and see if we can meet eye to eye,'” voter Gary O’Malley said.

Brannon’s sign may be the first political sign you see pop up this year, but it certainly won’t be the last.

From the Port City, Brannon planned to hit several other spots across the Tar Heel State during a two-day tour.

He needs to run head on into liberal lies, and hold their hypocrisy right in their face.

A breath of fresh air. If you don’t want the same old thing, come hear him speak and meet with him personally. Ask him anything or voice your concerns.
As far as the “No” candidate goes, I guess who is saying no is what counts. Reid has denied senatorial debate on budgets and legislation that would have by passed sequestration. Sequestration is just a debate about HOW MUCH more we will have to spend this year than last! It’s not about cutting spending at all! There is no cut, we will STILL spend more next year. Get real leftie :-)

It’s about time someone said “NO” to Socialistic Community-based programs that cost enormous amounts of public wealth (resulting in mass taxation and regulation). I for one am sick of hearing Progressives (who are actually Regressive in Nature) hippocritically and ignorantly whine. More people need to be taught to be self-sufficient, not propped up with subsidies, welfare, handouts and food stamps. These Democratic, Communistic, Socialistic policies must stop or we will not leave a future for the next generation. We must get back to our Constitution.

You are exactly right, we do need someone that will try to reduce the spending, erase the debt, preserve our 2nd amendment rights, and build our economy.

Just what we need – another Senator No.

It’s time to say “NO” to more regulation, regressive taxes, corporate giveaways, more Welfare and Food Stamps, endless deficits, ever increasing benefits and public salaries. Give people money and they come for more. Teach them to fend for themselves and quit relying on the public wealth; let’s reduce taxes and regulation, free up families paychecks by repealing the 16th Amendment. I refuse to have any more of my property taken from me without my consent for more of your foolish Communistic, Socialistic, Progressive (REGRESSIVE) policies. Go to Europe where you can find what you are looking for.

that she needs to go. i believe she’s either ignorant of her constituents stance, feigning ignorance or completely out of touch. i wrote her about supporting the 2nd amendment & her reply was: ” i support sportsman, some of my fondest memories are going camping in the NC mountains”… not only is that the lamest response ever, it really sums up her take on whats going on in our nation right now.

Hopey Change

She was a fluke from the Hopey Change election of 2008 and does not represent NC as we learned from the primary and general elections of last year. She’s out of touch with our state and it’s time for her to retire.

He gets all the votes I am allowed under then-current voter ID laws (if any.)

Great… another Tea Party wing-ding! Let’s hope a real Republican steps forward to run. These nut jobs like Allen West, Christine O’Donnell and our local favorite, Brian Berger have ruined our party. Vet him now!

Do you not know that Democratic, Communist, and Socialist policies are very different from each other? You have been listening to that drug addict Rush too much because you just rant without making any sense whatsoever. You are a good one to talk about whining.
