JACKSONVILLE, NC (AP) — Authorities are scheduled to discuss the details after a US Marine wanted for questioning in the death of his 11-month-old child was found dead.

The Daily News of Jacksonville reports that Jacksonville Public Safety Director Mike Yaniero will hold a news conference Thursday at Jacksonville City Hall.

Police responded Tuesday to a report of a child not breathing. The child died at Onslow Memorial Hospital.

On Wednesday, Jacksonville police learned the Marine they wanted to question in the child’s death was dead. The Marine’s name hasn’t been released.

Craven County Sheriff Jerry Monette said a Trent Woods police officer responded to a call of an unidentified man at a house. While at the scene, an officer heard a gunshot coming from inside a pickup truck and found the Marine.

Good, he did what the state should do if it had any sense of justice. Our courts keep letting criminals go free.

I am an ex-cop and read all these post from people like you. There is a court and jury to find if a person is guilty or not. One day something is going to happen to you and you will want your day in court and not be tried by people that don’t know the facts. That is why we have a court..

Now we will never know what really happen.

Whatever…Marine Corps lets their brain damaged baby killers take care of kids. That’s the fact. For every child that died in the hand of a marine, I would sue your government. Freedom is not for felons nor seriously mentally ill. Marine corps should be taking care of their retards!

in this case. As far as the court system I don’t hold it in very high regard at all. When a scumbag makes it this easy on the taxpayer I’m all for it.

But he decided he didn’t want to go to court and I applaud his decision and wish more criminals would take the same route.

…evidently made quite a few arrests. Did you truly appreciate the manner in which the justice system allowed those you witnessed performing crimes go back to the streets to commit more crime?

My father was a WWII and Korean War veteran. He provided public service as a police officer for many years afterward. He described how criminals were set free over and over again by the courts. That isn’t anything unusual, you can find thousands of those here in NHC, but it is none-the-less very frustrating to arresting officers.

The “day-in-court” thing is important, but it has been trampled by the slick-willie attorneys and puts the public at risk. Although this system is fairer than most, it isn’t by any means perfect. The bad part is, it’s getting worse all the time.

My father was never an “ex-cop”. When he retired, he was a “former police officer”. The only “ex’s” were the ones that were fired in disgrace.

That is incredibly sad. I guess he enacted his own form of justice for his mistake. RIP.

My son-in-law is a Marine and is so excellent with his two girls he is more likely to kill someone for hurting them . He is from Jackson and is devastated about this . It has absolutely nothing with being a Marine or being from the south . Boy it is disappointing reading ignorant comments !

How about you dumba**es that are pointing the fingers keep your hillbilly mouths shut until the case is fully closed! You don’t know what happened! The mother or her sister could have done it. You are quick to blame and it should be you with the gun pointed at your head.

Agreed! Hillbilly ignorance needs to be stopped. Uneducated individuals come off as very stupid, get educated, wait for FACTS! You media freaks just get hard ons for stories without fully researching. I know the sister did it cause her and her lazy no job and her black husband were too busy playing house and let the kid chew on a wipey thinning it was ok, like trashy people do and the kid chocked. Stupid slob just wants to put the blame on someone else who has already seen enough and done more than enough for this country just so he can be jobless! He didn’t do it cause the kid, THAT HE WASN’T EVEN SURE WAS HIS, he was paying child support on and saw him weekly. He love that kid! So the rest of y’all, karma will reap soon! And I hope she has NO MERCY!
