BOLIVIA, NC (WWAY) -- An employee of the Southport Police Department was arrested early Saturday morning for allegedly impersonating an officer.

According to the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office 45-year-old Anthony Early Buntyn has been charged with felony dissemination of obscenities and impersonation of a law enforcement officer.

Southport Police Chief Jerry Dove told WWAY that Buntyn was a clerk for the department, and had also served as the department chaplain in the past. Dove says that at this Buntyn has been suspended with pay pending the results of an internal review by his department and the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office.

Dove says that he hopes to speak with Buntyn on Monday about the charges.

Buntyn is being held on a $10,000 bond at the Brunswick County jail at this time.

I' m from Mississippi. I had a child by this man 24 years ago. Our daughter has looked up to this man. Until yesterday, when we learned that the man she call father is not a father. He is a disgrace. Its imbarrassing. To learn that for 24 Years the 100 pictures that we have been receiving are fake., you were never a police lieutenant of Southport Police Department. My whole life is been a lie. Listening to you..its not just you its the whole family. I wish I could have step forward 20 Yeats ago. But I allowed you to intimidate me and your daughter for Yeats with your lies. I hope you get everything u deserve and more. If only the community knew.

This guy talks a good game

This guy talks a good game and conveys that he has your best interest at heart. As stated by others that have made comments so far, it is evident he does not. I have had the displeasure of confiding in him due to the position I thought he is/was/not in and what he is told definitely did not stay with him and it doesn't even have anything to do with police matters or crime. It was personal information and my concerns of some mischief going on. Strike #1! Was given false and misleading information/direction from him. Strike #2! He has put, in my opinion, a department of good people at risk and given them a blackeye! Strike 3!!!!

Bad leaders in a small town.

just look at the history of the police down there. numerous cops arrested and now the minister. i think the people should look at the chief for the problems. he doesnt care about the town or his workers. he only cares about getting people out of trouble so they like him. someone should call someone to investigate the ongoing problems down there.

Amen, couldn't have said it

Amen, couldn't have said it any better..

Hmm just what I've been

Hmm just what I've been trying to tell people for months ad nobody wanted to listen. Now look. What a shame. And you're suppose to be a "chaplain" helping people? More like a disgrace and a sorry person in the society.

the issue

the chief is the problem. he allows his people to steal from crime scenes and hires stupid people that get the town in trouble. he makes his officers drop charges on criminals and if you refuse you are treated badly. someone call the SBI and look into the ongoing issues in this police chief.

Tell Anthony not to worry

Tell Anthony not to worry about it, presidence is already set, Chadbourn town Manager Stevie Cox just proved in court it is ok to take a police chiefs badge and impersonate him, it is also ok to take a police vehicle and ride around wherever and however you want to and that is ok, I doubt you have done any worse.

And he calls himself a

And he calls himself a 'Minister". A "hussuler", morelike.

And he calls himself...

What the heck is a "hussuler"?

Scientists studying the recent Brunswick LEO issues have discovered that the lack of a good doughnut shop in the area has resulted in the recent uncontrollable renegade behavior noted throughout the county. God help us Krispy Kream!

Anthony Buntyn

You should not joke about this matter. This is a serious matter. I live in Southport and this man is a disgrace to his community, police dept and the Christian church. I have personally complained about him on numerous occasions and as one person said Chief Dove should be investigated. And FYI he has not been chaplain for almost a year.

Wow, a doughnut joke, how

Wow, a doughnut joke, how oringinal, I've never heard that before. This is not a "Brunswick LEO issue" in this article, it is an impersonation of an officer case.
