A Pennsylvania man is being held in connection with the discovery of explosives two weeks ago in New Hanover County, according to a federal official.

The FBI on Friday confirmed that Istvan A. Merchenthaler, 42, was in custody. He faces charges in connection with a Ponzi scheme that officials say defrauded $2 million from investors over seven years, according to media reports in Pennsylvania.

On Thursday 60 pipe bombs were discovered in a storage locker in Chester County, Pa., that was traced to Merchenthaler, a law enforcement official told

Such an angry, conniving bunch.

This guy is from Chester Co., where a majority of elected officials are republicans.
Making assumptions about him, make you look shallow, immature, and premature. Nobody wants that.
Why don’t you sit down, and let law enforcement do their jobs, before you hurt yourself?

Istvan Merchenthaler is a POS and I hope he rots in jail for life!
I know him! He is a hard criminal! He was busted in Brazil with 20kilos of coke back in 2004 and his family PAID to get him out of that. He schemed $2mil+, stole two cars, identity theft, etc…not to mention the mental and verbal abuse that he dished out on his wife and kid! He has made some really good people’s lives a living f’n hell for the past 6-7yers! It’s about time he learns what he’ll feels like!

“Istvan Merchenthaler is a POS and I hope he rots in jail for life!”

I agree…but then hoarding bombs should get him at least 3 months of picking up trash along the highway with a security guard holding a sling shot on him.
If you meant on your last line of your comment, that’s it’s about time he learns what “Hell” feels like…well…the public is more experienced then he apparently as we see these criminals back on the streets (as we “Always” later find out through the news media records)…back on the streets to commit more crime.
(refer to 0:45 into this trailer)…that’s just about the way it goes too!

Was arrested in 2004 for drug trafficking in Brazil. In 2006 he was arrested for a ponzi scheme that bilked MILLIONS from investors.
And yet he was able to buy firearms?
Some back ground check done by the LEOs huh? This of course is a career criminal using various aliases. Just like the criminals that have their girlfriends go to gun shows to buy weapons for them there.
Look I’m a gun owner and have a CWP. I know how to use it safely and since I switched from my old 45 to a 9mm my accuracy has improved.
I have nothing to fear from a background check.
I also believe that repeat offenders for drugs, violent crimes, and others should be sent to prison. Nutcases shouldn’t be able to purchase guns.
But this type of event and the person involved are giving more and more credence to the argument that background checks should be conducted and they should be extensive.
Protect the “law abiding” part of gun owners by NOT allowing these guys the ability to buy….
