WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Cape Fear Community College has finalized a deal to replace its aging research vessel for its Marine Technology program.

A spokesman says the school closed on its purchase of the R/V Cape Hatteras yesterday. It will replace the nearly 50-year-old R/V Dan Moore.

The school will hold a welcome ceremony for the Cape Hatteras Thursday at 11:30 a.m.

CFCC said last week it negotiated to buy the the Cape Hatteras from the National Science Foundation for $900,000. That's about half the original asking price.
