NEW HANOVER COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — A citizen’s tip led to an investigation and drug bust of three men including one recently released inmate.

The New Hanover County Sheriff’s Office received a tip that possible drug activity was going to take place with Vasthi Baptist, who was recently released from the New Hanover County Detention Facility.

The Sheriff’s Office Vice and Narcotics Detectives began their investigation of Baptist. Detectives observed him getting into a gold Nissan sedan. They decided to investigate further when they saw two other men in the vehicle begin to move around.

When detectives approached the car, the men tried to swallow packages. Officers quickly detained the three men and began to search them.

20 bags of heroin were recovered from Sharif Craig, one bag was recovered from Baptist and the driver, Hezekiah Nixon IV was in possession of 29 bags of heroin and 16 bags of marijuana.
