WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The National Rifle Association held a fundraiser this weekend near the Wilmington Convention Center, and some folks had a few things to say about it with signs that protested the event.

The group, which calls itself Carolinians for Sensible Gun Laws, is based out of Wilmington. Members say they want to spread awareness for the need for gun reform which they say starts in the legislature.

“Right now is a critical time,” group member Bert Blake said. “People need to call to their Congressmen, senators and their representatives to let our voice be heard, too.”

The group says the NRA acts as a lobbyist in Washington itself. They say the more noise the NRA makes, the louder people need to be about gun reform.
